I do a shallow u cut, and have been cutting my own hair for sooooo long. Definitely more than 10 years. During shutdown, my daughter asked if she could cut her own hair now too. I said sure, and wow does she do a good job. She gave herself adorable bangs too

What foam rollers are you using? The ones I have are held in place with this plastic clip contraption that leaves a crimp in my curl which drives me crazy!

As someone who recently spontaneously cut nearly a foot off their own hair at 2am having never done it before, meh. I wasn't that panicked by the first cut. I was a little hesitant to do it but then one the first cut was made I was like 'oh. this isn't such a big deal'. I think most videos and stuff are people just acting up to the camera

The basic element does not change, at least not until one ages poorly, if that is to be one's unfortunate fate. Natural is always best.

I thinks the u shape happened because to compare the lengths you would pull your hair over to the front so it ended up being longer when it fell back

I was so anxious watching you cutting your hair to the worst possible length, but it turned out wonderful! 6 years ago I cut my mid back long hair to Audrey in Roman holiday hairstyle, and went to the hairdresser to have perm, because my hair is straight and it looked terrible just as is.

I had to BEG a hairdresser to cut my curly/wavy hair so I could do all of these cute short vintage styles with waves and curls (20s to 50s are my periods!). I stopped hating my hair and started loving it when I really got into vintage styles and stopped listening to the modern wisdom which seems to dictate that I must either wear it long, natural and boring or long, straightened to hell, damaged and equally boring. Of course she subscribed to this and tried to talk me out of it. Her partner also made sure to tell me that the picture I brought in looked "terrible". The struggles of wanting vintage hair when 99% of modern hairdressers have no knowledge of the cutting and styling techniques, as well as no appreciation for these elegant styles. She didn't do the correct shape from what I can tell and of course styled it all modern and nothing like the picture *sigh*. I guess I should be glad that she at least didn't straighten it automatically without asking.
I usually cut my own hair before, but had no idea what I was doing (though what she did looks only minimally different and no more historically accurate so...yay?). I have no idea why I didn't think of going through vintage manuals like I do for styling techniques. We are officially back in lockdown so I'll have the time now and do it by myself again next time. But no hair thinning haha.

This is so excellent. I love the way it turned out! Good on you for doing it yourself. I can barely manage a unicorn cut, let alone cutting it short freehand and using thinning shears. Mad skills.

When I go out in the misty morning air before school to do chores,I always wear a headscarf over my pin curls. although, They look more like cinnamon buns because my hair is so thick, and I don't want any other people nearby to see my goofy hair. I'm always scared to take my hair down before this because the wet air will make my curls fall out in 7 seconds. I am thinking about buying foam rollers though, because your headscarf lays much flatter than mine.
