I have a warm leggings and a modern long wool skirt. Let's just say people look at me funny when I carry my coat in my hands and walk around with short sleeves on top in 5°C weather, because they vastly underestimate how warm I am on the bottom.
I think the skirt also does a lot on terms of keeping the air in. I can simply keep all that lovely body-warmed air right where I need it.

I don't have a lobster emoji, but much respect to the sacrificial sister. Clearly, the old ways were much smarter!

As a Canadian, please use real wool in cold weather. It's so much warmer and is also one of the only materials in existence that will continue to keep you just as warm if it gets wet.

Have you considered sewing ear-cover-bag-thingys to your mask?
Your ears will always covered because you have to wear the mask anyway, I did that this winter, and it saved my ears from freezing to death

Yeah! Wool is cool! I am passionate knitter, and I love wool, it will never let you freeze especially if you choose right animal for outside temperature. Alpaca is very warm as most camel, for example, just because of hair structure. But the most warm wool is lopi - sheep wool from Iceland - those sheep survive through really bad weather and developed really protective wool. Fleece and other made of oil fabrics is nothing compare to the world of wool, definitely, not only in warmness, but also in beauty ^_^.

Wool is so cool! This is basically how I, a desert flower, dress in base layers while now living in the Northeast: wool sweater, wool long-johns, wool pants, wool socks, wool scarf, and wool gloves with a wool jacket.

I think a lot of people today knows too little about the materials they're wearing. In a lot of "winter wardrobe" videos i've seen on youtube is just 3-4 layers of cotton and a polyester coat like 👏that👏is👏not👏enough👏 when it gets below -1 C. You can easily manage with 3-4 layers down to -20C if you choose the right materials though.

the body suit you are wearing would most likely be a union suit! they were originally made for women, but became increasingly popular for men, and eventually became associated with working men (hence the name). they are a precursor for long johns! they would have a flap at the back that could be undone for bathroom purposes.

I have always said while my legs are freezing under two pairs of leggings and a skirt, that women's winter fashion lost a lot of it's warmth factor when we stepped away from multiple levels of wool skirts.
Back when the world was still normal my family used to go caroling at Christmas, and let me tell you, dressed in a 1700s wool dress and cape was the warmest I have ever been while walking around at night in below freezing temperatures.
